Seed simulation demand with public traffic-counter data

Hand-set demand is fine for what-if studies, but calibration wants measured traffic. Road Mesh integrates public traffic-counter networks in four countries and converts their counts into traffic-source demand on your imported network — with an optional history archive for going back to a chosen time window.

Supported counter networks

When your import area falls inside a supported region, Road Mesh offers its counter sources automatically:

  • Iceland — Vegagerðin (Icelandic Road Administration) national counters and City of Reykjavík counters.
  • Netherlands — NDW (Nationaal Dataportaal Wegverkeer) measurement sites.
  • Finland — Fintraffic TMS station data via Digitraffic.
  • France — Bison Futé QTV-DIR measurements on the national DIR network.

From counts to demand

Counter sites near your network are matched to the roads they measure, and their vehicle counts convert into per-source demand in vehicles per hour (veh/h). You keep control: converted demand lands as ordinary traffic sources you can inspect, adjust or delete before simulating.

Live now, or a past time window

The integrations read each provider's live public feed, so demand can reflect what the counters are measuring right now. With the optional history archive enabled, feeds are recorded at 15-minute resolution, and a time machine lets you rewind demand to a past window — a weekday peak hour, for example — instead of whatever is on the road at the moment you happen to model.

Good to know

  • Coverage is limited to the listed providers and varies by region; outside them, demand is set manually.
  • Counter data quality and site placement are the providers'; Road Mesh converts what the feeds report.
  • The history archive accrues forward from when recording is enabled — there is no backfill of earlier data.
  • Live traffic data is a paid-plan feature, and historical data starts on Team; see pricing.
