A traffic digital twin is an editable model of a real road network that you can load with demand and simulate — so changes are tested in the model before they are made on the street. Road Mesh builds that twin entirely in the browser: no desktop install, no license server, and every network element stays editable data rather than a static 3D scene.

The model is the source of truth

Road Mesh keeps a strict one-way data flow: imported source data becomes a normalized road network — splines, lanes, junctions, signals, closures and a routable lane graph — and the 3D mesh, the simulation and the rendered vehicles are all generated views of that model. Edit the model and everything downstream regenerates. Nothing is ever hand-painted geometry that drifts out of sync with the data.

One continuous workflow

Everything in Road Mesh follows the same loop: Import → Edit → Add demand → Simulate → Analyze.

  • Import — OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API, GIS layers, CAD overlays or LandXML designs.
  • Edit — lanes, speeds, junction control, signal timing, closures and new geometry, with undo/redo.
  • Add demand — traffic sources with destination ratios, driver and vehicle profiles, or measured counts from supported public counter networks.
  • Simulate — a deterministic fixed-step microsimulation with car-following (IIDM + CAH), MOBIL lane changing and closure-aware rerouting.
  • Analyze — queue-length and throughput metrics, compared across baseline and scenario.

Deterministic, inspectable simulation

The engine advances in fixed steps, so the same network and demand reproduce the same result — a practical requirement for comparing scenarios. Vehicles follow the actual lane graph, prepare lanes before turns and exits, respond to coordinated signals, and reroute around closures.

Collaborative cloud workflow

Projects are local-first; paid plans add cloud save and sync, and Team plans add a shared workspace with roles, shared driver-profile and CAD-preset libraries, and scenario comparison — so a consultancy can keep one twin per study area instead of emailing files.

Good to know

  • Road Mesh is a microsimulation planning tool; it does not control field equipment or ingest signal-controller state.
  • Simulation realism depends on the network and demand you provide — review inferred lanes and signals before drawing conclusions.
  • Very large areas are constrained by per-plan import-area limits and by what a browser can comfortably render.
